The Amenity & Environment Committee was founded by Walmer Town Council as a separate entity to oversee the management and maintenance of lands and facilities not already covered by the other committees. Anything that is accepted by the A&E committee is then referred to the Finance and General Purposes Committee or Full Council if required.
The Committee holds overall responsibility for the following:
- Campbell Road Allotments – Campbell Road
- Stoney Path – Campbell Road
- Walmer Peace Garden – York & Albany Close
- Urban Nature Reserve – Churchill Avenue
- Footpaths & Public Rights of Way – Walmer Town Limits
- Highways Improvement Plan-Kent County Council
- Environmental Projects (Historic Information, Notice Boards, Salt Bins, Outdoor Gym)
- Dog Fouling, Waste & Recycling including provision of rubbish bins and dog bins
- Tree Planting (liaison with Tree Warden) in particular the Dover Road Tree Project and development of York and Albany and Churchill Avenue.
- Cycling Provision including Route One and the Cycle Hub at Walmer Train Station
- Support of Youth facilities and provision including The Drill Field – Multi Use Games Area.
Highways Improvement Plan
Walmer Town Council works with Kent County Council identifying projects for the roads within Walmer to help improve or promote safety. At each Amenities and Environment Committee meeting new ideas will be put to members to see if they wish to move forward with these.
Kent County Council retain overall responsibility for the road network and any ideas identified from Walmer Town Councils’ Highways Improvement Plan have to be agreed by Kent County Council.

Improvements made to the Road network from Walmer Town Councils’ Highways improvement plan:
- Ardent Avenue – Double yellow lines for emergency access point from North Barracks.
- Lines refreshed outside Cedars Surgery and on Canada Road.
- Pedestrian in road signage on Liverpool Road.
- Drainage ditches on Kingsdown Road.
- Potholes on pathway along The Strand filled.
- Widened junction on Station Road/ Dover Road
