There are three forms of grant available from Walmer Town Council,

General Grants

Walmer Town Council has set aside funding to provide needed financial assistance to locally based groups and organisations, this funding can be requested for specific projects. These projects may involve the provision of services, facilities or events. Financial help will rarely be given for general administration or operating costs. However, there may be exceptions given at the Council’s discretion.

A current maximum value of £500 per grant. However, these amounts are also at the Council’s discretion. Applications must be received before the project has commenced; no assistance will be given to retrospective applications.

WHEREVER POSSIBLE THE TOWN COUNCIL WOULD PREFER TO SUPPORT A SPECIFIC ELEMENT OF AN EVENT OR PROJECT.

Applications will be put in front of the Finance and General Purposes Committee to be reviewed and recommendations made before going to a meeting of the Full Council to be decided.

The project must be completed within 12 months of any award being given.

Capital Grants

Walmer Town Council has also set aside finances to assist organisations and projects based in Walmer with the cost of a capital development.

Projects should be of a total cost of over £5,000 and must be deemed to be of clear benefit to the local community. A maximum of £1,000 can be awarded to any one scheme.

Funding may be applied for at any stage prior to the commencement of the project but a commitment to funding will only be held for 3 years and no monies will be released until the project has commenced.

No monies can be given to a project that has already started.

Grants will be considered initially by the Finance & General Purposes Committee, which meets in April, July, October and January in each financial year. The Full Council will determine final decisions.

Nature and Biodiversity Grant 

In 2023 Walmer Town Council implemented a new Nature and Biodiversity Grant for use in the expansion and improvement of biodiversity throughout the region. Available to those who require financing to improve biodiversity, increase the resilience of our local natural environment or introduce carbon absorbing planting to help in the fight against climate change.

A current limit of maximum value of £500 per grant has been set. A grant can be used for any scheme that champions nature and helps to fight climate change, from tree planting to public gardens, local nature studies to building your own bird boxes. Those with short term ideas or long term schemes are all welcome to apply. With funds available now and throughout the summer, we hope the Nature and Biodiversity grant will give a helping hand to those wanting to make a difference for nature. Kent County Council and Dover District Council Grants

The KCC Member Community Grant is for support to local community projects that are consistent with Kent County Council’s overall objectives. Each county councillor can award £3,600 in grant and these grants can be requested in support of numerous activities, including:

• Local events and activities
• Purchase or repair of equipment and furniture
• Promotional materials
• Marketing and training costs
• Website creation and redesign
• Small-scale pilot projects
• Community safety schemes
• Sports projects
• Mentoring support to assist local groups to become more sustainable
