Holiday Crowds at the Bustling Brocante
Bank Holiday Monday, 26 August 2024 on Walmer Green
Stallholders enjoyed yet another hugely successful day of trading at the ever-popular annual Brocante organised by Walmer Town Council on Walmer Green.
The Brocante was bigger than ever this year with over 120 stalls to browse through, and as usual a fantastic selection of goods were on display to tempt the thousands of visitors which the event attracts each year. From vintage designs and antique furniture to handmade jewellery, toys, crockery, flowers; goods of every description were available for discerning buyers to purchase. Walmer Green was creatively transformed into a shopper’s paradise for the day and even a sudden downpour of rain mid-morning did nothing to dampen the atmosphere and enjoyment of the day. Brollies and plastic sheets appeared out of nowhere and then just as swiftly disappeared as the rainclouds moved away and sunshine returned for the rest of the day.
Our special guests as usual were The Canterbury Auction Galleries team who were kept busy with a steady stream of visitors to the Bandstand for a free valuation of much-loved treasures and personal belongings.
Chairman of Walmer Town Council’s Events Committee, Cllr Anthony Grist said:
“Once again, this event has attracted a wonderful variety of different stalls with items for sale. I was absolutely delighted to see Walmer Green overflowing with visitors to the event, from our early morning opening, right through to the end of the day.”
Cllr Trevor Bond, Chairman of Walmer Town Council said: “I am thrilled that the Brocante is so well attended each year. It is one of the most popular local events that Walmer Town Council put on for residents. On behalf of the Council, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the volunteers and local community organisations who support us unfailingly each year to make it a success.”
