Walmer Children's Festival.
How much fun can you have in one afternoon?
Saturday 29th June 2024
Walmer Town Council’s Children’s Festival on Saturday the 29th June sought to put this to the test.
A bike trial show from Wheel 2 Wheel Display team featured stunts on bicycles climbing ramps, pulling wheelies and death-defying jumps, including jumping off the top of a van over Deal’s Carnival Court at one point. The Princesses in their finery added some glamour to the event.
Applause Touring brought a brand of puppetry to the event, with the Prawn to be Wild Fish Co spending the afternoon being chased by Seagulls and Doris Drake and Daria the Dragon raising awareness of their petition to save the dragons habitat. Just in case Daria the Dragon had a sneeze Kent Fire and Rescue were in attendance, allowing budding firefighters the opportunity to get into a fire engine.
Established favourites the Junk orchestra were in attendance once again, with their unusual interactive musical instruments. Circus Sensible was once again teaching circus skills. Free face painting was as always very popular with Anna’s Face Candy brightening up the children’s faces, adding bright faces to the crowd. And Kent Kite Flyers despite a lack of early wind were able to get a magnificent display of kites in the air, once again proving that pigs can fly! Kellet Gut Shantymen returned for a good old pirate sing along of sea shanties.
New for this year, the English Heritage and the RNLI put on a selection of Craft activities including how to make a bug hotel, pebble painting and much more. The RNLI team also went into the stocks for a refreshing sponge throwing activity.
A spokesman for Walmer Town Council said “This is one of our annual events on Walmer Green. This year has been great we had perfect weather and everywhere you look all you can see are children having fun. It’s important as a local Council to be able to give back to the community and to engage with the members of the community and this event gives us the opportunity to do both. Walmer Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended and hope you all had as much fun as we did”
