Christmas Carols and Classics - 14th December 2024

Christmas Carols And Classics.

Saturday 14th December 2024

Children from The Downs and Sholden CE Primary Schools stole the show at the annual Walmer Town Council Christmas Carols and Classics Concert held on Walmer Green on Saturday 14 December. Singers from both schools wowed the audience, performing a combination of traditional carols mixed with a few modern Christmas classics!

The evening was filled with music from the school children, a solo set from local singer David Hawkes, and with a performance from the fabulous Black Key and the White Notes, who travelled over from Thanet to perform for us.

Each act performed a selection of Christmas songs with audience participation actively encouraged! The audience also enjoyed the return by popular demand of Jake St Ange who delivered a brilliantly interactive song about Rudolph the Reindeer, which he had personally written especially for the event, helped on the night by the children in the audience.

The event also saw the arrival of Santa Claus accompanied by the Deal Regatta Court in suitably festive reindeer outfits. Other Carnival Courts from further afield also joined our festive celebrations before they began their own travels for the Deal Winter Carnival parade which left from The Strand at the end of all the singing.

Cllr Tony Grist introduced the concert, before handing over to Pete and Julie St Ange from The Sea Café who led the introductions for the performers during the evening. Over eight hundred people attended the concert, which was held next to the Sea Café on Walmer Green, a location which added to the enjoyment of the concert for many who were able to enjoy hot chocolate, mulled wine and other warming treats.

Cllr Grist, Chair of Walmer Town Council's Events Committee, said:
“Thanks to all those who contributed to the great success of this year’s Walmer Town Council’s Xmas celebration. I hope all of you who attended enjoyed this lovely local community event and will continue to show your support for the event in future years.”
