Grass Cutting and Hay Making

The weekend of 26-27 October saw the first cutting of the grass on the plain at Hawkshill Freedown, thanks to the assistance from the Gazen Salts Nature reserve. Over the next few weeks four acres of land will be cut down and the grass piled by volunteers for later use. Remember that the hay making begins on 6th November, so if you have a little time on your hands then come on and help out, just remember to:

Bring Your Own Rake! (Maybe some gloves as well)

Part way through the cutting of the plain at Hawkshill Freedown thanks to our friends from Gazen Salts

It’s a lot of work but our friends from Gazen Salts know just what to do

The clean up of old dried flowers afterwards goes a long way to helping with the compost piles.

The great work cutting back the overgrown hedge bordering the access road to the houses at the top of the hill

Don’t worry not all of that area’s been cut today

  Volunteers at rest
